OUR STORY
Hi! We’re Junior + Makenzie.
Makenzie first came to Zambia in 2014, followed by trips in 2016 and 2017. Through those experiences, she began sensing God calling her to missions. But for years, the answer seemed to be “not yet,” so she continued waiting and praying for God’s timing.
In May 2021, a mutual friend introduced us, and we began dating. At the time, Makenzie was preparing for another trip to Zambia, wondering if she would once again hear “not yet.”
Instead, the answer was, “It’s time.”
So we prayed.
And through prayer, we made the difficult decision to end our relationship and follow where we each believed God was leading. Makenzie continued pursuing that call, returning to Zambia in 2022 for Poetice’s Extensive and joining Poetice staff in 2023. Junior remained in Michigan working at a church.
Over the next few years, Junior would occasionally send Makenzie a message, but each time she continued to sense God saying “no.” Then, toward the end of 2025, something changed.
So she prayed.
We reconnected in December 2025, and during that conversation Makenzie asked, “Would you consider coming to Zambia and just seeing what God might do?”
So he prayed.
Which led to Junior coming to Zambia in February 2026. During that trip, the answer became clear: God was calling him back to Zambia and to Poetice.
He returned in May 2026 to participate in Poetice’s Intensive and Extensive training and eventually received the invitation to officially join staff with Poetice.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we got engaged.
Now we’re preparing for marriage in December 2026 and a life of serving Jesus together in Choma, Zambia.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
Makenzie leads all things Prayer + Worship at Poetice, helping cultivate a culture of prayer and worship and creating spaces for people to encounter the Lord.
Junior serves through worship and is currently exploring other essential roles where his years of local church experience can best serve the Poetice community.
Together, our desire is to see people encounter Jesus, grow as disciples, and live fully surrendered to Him.
PARTNER WITH US
Our life and ministry in Zambia are made possible by people who pray, encourage, and financially partner with us.
God has asked each of us for a yes at different points in this story.
Makenzie said yes. Junior said yes. And now, together, we’re saying yes to what He has next.
So will you say yes and partner with us?
