MYRAH MOONGA SIANONGO.
SHE IS 18 YEARS OLD.
For the last 5 years,
Myrah has been studying Viola at the Academy of Music in Choma, Zambia.
The Academy of Music
has played a critical role
in her life.
“Being in the Academy of Music has really changed me. Because, you find that a lot of youth out there that are into things that are not even useful for their lives. They are into drinking beer and doing such bad things. But in being in the Academy of Music it has really helped me, because it controls me to be a real human being, a real girl. I can do what I want, I do everything right because of music.”
Myrah’s home life is similar to many of the other students that attend the Academy.
She lives with her 5 siblings, 2 nephews and her mother. Her father died in 2006.
IF I DIDN’T ATTEND THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC…
“Probably, I would be one of the girls they are calling in the street like to be prostitutes or doing something bad, but, I had to put myself into music in order for me to keep away from those things. Like, instead of going out at night, I would spend time practicing on my instrument.”
Myrah loves jazz music.
She smiles often as
she speaks about her
through the Academy.
“My favorite thing about the Academy is the music that is being produced out there, mostly it provides me with something to aid with my talent. Music is important to me because it inspires me, at least, it controls the inner part of me. In everything that I do, I do with all my heart.”
She goes on to express to me her hopes and dreams for her future. Her sense of self-worth and confidence is self-evident through her passionate, hopeful tone.
“I want my future to be perfect. Like, when I will be out of university, I will get a job. After getting a job, I am going to get married to someone who loves me as I do. After that, I will be able to sponsor the Academy and help it grow more. I expect my future to be just so wonderfully made out of music. It’s really important to me because in everything that I do, I do it with all my heart with music. I feel music is my talent, it is just within me. It’s the thing that I do best. That’s the reason why it’s more important to me. It’s the thing that I do best.”
WE BELIEVE IN MYRAH’S DREAM FOR HER FUTURE.
“Life is a great gift for me from God. I treasure it most and I like it most. It is something that is very important to me. I do what I want with my life and what I have chosen to do with my life is to go with music, and I like it.”
Our response is to continue to support her on her journey.
