Mwana is a special blend of ethically produced, African coffee beans that provide a delicious sip and a dose of justice. Call it a cup of kindness, call it a mug of love, we call it Mwana, which is how our Zambian brothers and sisters say “friend.”
By drinking Mwana, you are supporting our seven dimensions of development work. Each dimension is unique in its function, but they are all intrinsically bound to one another through Integral Mission. So, thank you for becoming part of something bigger by taking part in something you already enjoy—a cup of coffee.
MWANA COFFEE IS DIRECT TRADE COFFEE.
Direct trade is a term used by coffee roasters who buy straight from the growers, cutting out both the traditional middleman buyers and sellers and also the organizations that control certifications such as Fair Trade and Bird Friendly, for example. The Direct trade model builds mutually beneficial and respectful relationships with individual producers or cooperatives in coffee-producing countries.
Direct Trade is based on direct communication and mutual agreement between coffee producers and buyers. This approach gives coffee producers a lot more say in the terms of the trading agreement. Direct Trade empowers coffee producers by helping them improve the quality of their product so that they can earn more money on the global market.
